PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW! GRACIAS!
Dear friends,
It is showdown time for environmental justice versus some of the worst environmental racism seen in years.
The people of Kettleman City need your support, and physical presence if possible, at the so-called public hearing being held by the Kings County Board of Supervisors on Monday, December 7th at 6 p.m.. The hearing will be held in the Hanford Civic Auditorium, 400 N. Douty Street, Hanford.
The hearing is being held by the Supervisors to consider (and rule against) the appeal of the permit the County Planning Commission issued to Chem Waste on October 19th to expand the giant toxic waste dump. The appeal was filed by El Pueblo Para el Aire y Agua Limpio/People for Clean Air and Water, Kids Protecting Our Planet (the Kettleman youth group), Greenaction for Health and Environmental Justice and the Center on Race, Poverty and the Environment.
The hearing is being held 35 miles from Kettleman City with rigged and racist rules. It will be in English-only, despite the large percentage of residents who are monolingual Spanish-speakers.
The whole process is rigged in favor of Chem Waste, but the community and environmental justice supporters are mobilizing to demand justice and an end to dumping toxic waste in this low-income San Joaquin Valley farmworker community.
We will demand that the County grant our appeal, revoke the permit, and uphold justice - and we will sue them if they do not!
We will speak out against secret attempts to also dump radioactive wastes in Kettleman City.
We will demand an end to toxic dumping in this community suffering from birth defects and infant deaths.
We will testify at the hearing, speak out in protest, and also have a candlelight vigil in memory of the many infants in Kettleman City who have died from birth defects in the last two years.
Your presence will inspire and protect residents at the hearing, especially since the government resorted to police intimidation at the last hearing in October and the company resorted to shipping in workers from other plants to stack the public comment period. Our goal is to have at least 100 supporters there to back up the Kettleman City residents.
We need to stand together with our brothers and sisters in Kettleman City and not let them face this David versus Goliath fight alone.
AN INJURY TO ONE IS AN INJURY TO ALL!!!!
PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD, ATTEND IF YOU CAN.
Please email or call Greenaction (415-248-5010 x 101) if you can attend, and if you can provide rides to other supporters of environmental justice.
Thanks.....
In solidarity for justice,
Bradley Angel
